Premarital & Marital Counseling

Premarital Counseling is highly recommended for couples planning to marry. As marriage is the most complex of human relationships, and as the couples who enter this vital relationship, are not equipped to deal with the challenges they face in the marital relationship, it is of utmost importance that they seek some professional counseling in this matter. The problems couples face in marriage develop in most cases due to lack of problem solving strategies and conflicting role expectations in marital relationship.

Appropriate therapeutic models are used to provide the clients valuable perspective to solve the problem including the family-of-origin issues..

Premarital counseling program gives the couples opportunity to:

  • Explore the couple's Relationship Strength and Growth areas.
Learn useful communication skills, including assertiveness and active listening.
Learn skills to resolve conflicts through use of the Ten Step Procedure.
Explore their couple relationship and their families-of-origin using the Couple & Family Map.
Develop a budget and financial plan
Develop their personal, couple and family goals.
Talk about and deal with such issues as
    a) Sexual relationship
    b) Children and parenting
    c) Role relationship
    d) Spiritual beliefs

  • Plan for the couple to annually review their marriage and talk to a counselor, if and when necessary.

    • The following inventories from Life Innovations, Inc. are helpful for couples at different stages, for them to see what area in their relationships need more work for their own benefit.
